It’s all about the SHOES

This season, shoes are taking centre stage! Make sure you take note to buy some bold colours and stylish prints to add to your shoe wardrobe this Spring.

When it comes to shoes I usually stay safe, I think the most ‘out there’ pair of shoes I have are my sparkly converse! However tonight I went along to one of my favourite places to shop ‘next Braehead’ to take a look and try on shoes in their Spring collection and fell in love with so many beautiful colours and patterns I usually wouldn’t go for.

Here’s what I tried…

The colour pop!

I LOVE these! pair them with a pair of ripped denims and a white shirt or a cute Spring dress to add some colour to your outfit.

The Metallic!

Metallics are a must right now and you can pair these with almost any outfit. I would wear these with a LBD or a pair of ankle jeans and a blazer. Or I would pair them with my calf length black tulle skirt for a more smarter look.

Stand out style!

You will definitely stand out with these stunning boots which are also incredible comfortable.

What I went for…

I decided on these stunning and a little daring snake skin boots with the cut – out heel. I cannot wait to wear these! For their first outing I will probably pair them with a pair of black ripped jeans from next and a white shirt and belt.

I am so impressed with Next! They have a fantastic choice of shoes for whatever occasion from bold coloured boots to trendy trainers and work shoes, they have a fantastic range of everything. Keep an eye on the blog to see more outfit pics featuring these beauties!

Next time you visit the store remember to take a shoefie with your favourite shoes and share your picture on Instagram and tag @nextofficial with #nextshoefie for your chance to win a brand NEW pair of shoes every month for a year! How fabulous is that!

Thaikhun Glasgow VIP Launch Night

Th 1

Sawasdee Kha (Hello)

Have you tried Thaikhun yet? If not then drop everything and go!

I was lucky enough to get invited along to the VIP launch night at their new home in Silverburn, Glasgow on Monday evening. From the moment you walk through the door you feel as though you have stepped into Bangkok. The restaurant is filled with original TV’s, pictures, ornaments and flags from a Thai market which gives the authenticity of being in a Thai restaurant.

We met our friends and were offered some drinks and delicious food which tasted like it came straight from the streets of Bangkok. The pork skewers were probably my favourite but everything I tried was bursting with flavour!

After a while there was a speech thanking everyone who has been part of the journey to open Thaikhun, it was soo lovely to hear that all of the chefs were from Thailand and the manager was from a little village in Thailand herself. We were also told that a lot of the food has come from original recipes in her own little village and most of the items you will see on the ceiling and walls are from her own home in Thailand. I love places like this! You could feel the passion in the atmosphere for this place and I felt very thankful to be part of the celebration. After the speech everyone broke out in song and dance, almost the full restaurant got up to dance and join in the celebration.

I can’t wait to get back and taste more of the delicious food on the menu and maybe this time I will choose not to be the designated driver and get to taste some of their cocktails! I love the place everyone is so friendly and they are just like one big family! Thaikun is also owned by the same group as Chaophraya which is an upmarket Thai restaurant.

Would I go back? YES! Here is a couple of pictures from the fun we had in the photobooth…

My visit to Franklin & Sloane

Vibrant, spacious, welcoming, friendly and extremely tasty food! These are just a few words which come to mind when people ask what I thought of the new Franklin and Sloane restaurant and bar. On Thursday evening I went along with family to the soft launch. We were sat at a long marble table in the middle of one of the rooms, what is great about this place is that no matter what table you are sat at you have plenty of room and are not almost sitting on the lap of the people next to you. There’s a huge outdoor decked area at the rear of the building and also at the front, great for some cocktails as the sun goes down or some al fresco dining.
For starter I had the goats cheese tart with beetroot, the tart was lovely and fluffy which was delicious withjust the right amount of goats cheese, I would definitely recommend this. I also stole some of Kyle’s muscles, the portion was perfect for a starter and they were very flavoursome. Some of the others had the prawn cocktail and the haggis, they all looked yummy and I will obviously have to visit until I have tasted everything on the menu.
For mains most of the table ordered the steak which I tried some of and wow was it good! Flavoursome and cooked perfectly! My Dad had the chicken and he has not stopped talking about it so it must have been good. I had the salmon and mash which was very interesting as it had tomatoes and olives mixed through it.
For desert you must try the chocolate fondant, the sponge was soft and the warm melted chocolate in the centre is just heaven!
After finishing desert we were shown around the venue. The décor is stunning! If you like the Malmaison and Blythswood Hotel you will definitely like it here! There is an upstairs private dining area which is great for functions up to 100 people. The area can also be split into two different rooms and there’s also a bar, brilliant for networking and other celebratory events.
The restaurant is now officially open to the public and is likely to be busy I would highly recommend booking a table and trying it! If you don’t have time to go for dinner they also have a fabulous cream tea which would be perfect for a catch up with friends. We were very surprised at the prices as they are very reasonable for how good the service and food it.
If you are not from the area it is definitely worth a visit! The restaurant and bar is in a great location situated just a short walk from the bus station and the train station however if you are wearing heels you are only two minutes in a taxi. The restaurant looks onto the Dick Institute and library which is a stunning building! If you are looking for something to do at the weekend why not enjoy some delicious food at the restaurant and a visit to the museum? The Kay Park is also just around the corner which is lovely for a walk on a dry day.
Overall 5 stars from me I could not fault it at all! A must try. Visit their website here . Open from 10am to Midnight, Franklin & Sloane is the new favourite spot for brunch and coffee, freshly prepared meals and of course, a great selection of craft beers and cocktails!
Thank you to Franklin & Sloane and the G1 Group for having us.

The Bowery Restaurant & Bar

It is Friday yey! Time to celebrate with good food and a cocktail or two! The best place to go? The Bowery on Queen Street in Glasgow. Newly opened and formally The Independent. After a long day working and after a talk at the Glasgow Science Festival Kyle and I were soo hungry! We headed to The Bowery and immediately after walking in I felt relaxed and that I could unwind and enjoy some tasty food. The staff are all so lovely, honest and helpful which is great as there are many places where the staff just seem like they cannot wait to get out the place. The food is locally sourced fresh produce served up in a cosmopolitan atmosphere – Just perfect!

We were taken to our seats and left to order food. We decided on some Focaccia and the tempura to start with. I do wish that I never ordered the Focaccia as it filled me up and I felt like I couldn’t finish my main meal but it was delicious! For mains we had the Slow Braised Beef Brisket and the Roast Smoke Salmon Pasta. I highly recommend the brisket, I don’t usually like steak if it is really chewy but this literally melts in your mouth. I tried some of the pasta which was also delicious and a good sized portion. There is a great deal of choice on the menu so I am excited about going back and next time trying the cocktails too! We love our cocktails and like them made right, we spoke to the bar manager and he was so passionate about his job as a mixologist we knew the drinks would be great. The cocktail list looks fantastic, see it Here.

Just to make your mouth water here are some pictures of the food we enjoyed…

The Starters – Focaccia

Deliveroo – For people who want food delivered to them presto

Have yoouu heard about Deliveroo? If not, then let me tell you all about it!

Well do you ever get bored of the same old food at work or dread going out in the rain (like every day)? Or maybe you just want someone to deliver your favourite food straight to your door? Sure you do! Well that is exactly what Deliveroo will do. Pick your favourite restaurant and they will deliver it in approximately 32 min – impressive!

Why am I telling you this? My friend Nina and I enjoyed a day relaxing at a spa and enjoyed an afternoon tea (too many cakes and bread) then decided we were still starving but wanted to be good so decided on the Juice Garden on Byres Road. We were shattered being Ladies of Leisure all day and the traffic was just ridiculous and that is when we stopped and looked at each other with excitement as Deliveroo popped up on Facebook telling us they would deliver to us. Obviously we ordered our food there and then on the site which was so quick and easy to do. There is also a flat rate of £2.50 for delivery which is great because you know exactly what it is going to cost.

We both got to the house and waited (not for long) for our detox salads and drinks from The Juice Garden. Our Deliveroo delivery guy was soo polite and pleasant and delivered our food fresh from the restaurant. Our food was delicious and we can’t wait to order again! It is so handy when you are having a night in, people round, after a long day at work or if it is raining outside and you are just not for it.

Try Deliveroo out for yourself this weekend Here

Lemon Water- the benefits

So if you follow my Facebook page Little Miss Social you will know that I have got back into the gym FINALLY! I have also been very good this month and cut out my usual muffin or pain au chocolate for breakfast and several chocolate bars a week – it’s not been easy. However I have started drinking a lot of water with lemons added to it instead of coffee, tea or juice. This started mainly because I booked a last minute holiday (day dreams of lying on a lounger soaking up the sun being passed a pina colada looking like a Victoria’s Secret Model) and because I had two wisdom teeth removed and I can only have water and ice cream basically.

Anyway I thought I would share with you some information I found about the benefits of adding things to your water as I started to notice my skin getting more radiant and my stomach wasn’t getting bloated after meals. Here’s what I found:

Aids Digestion. Lemon juice flushes out unwanted materials and toxins from the body. It’s atomic composition is similar to saliva and the hydrochloric acid of digestive juices. It encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid that is required for digestion. Lemons are also high in minerals and vitamins and help loosen ama, or toxins, in the digestive tract. The digestive qualities of lemon juice help to relieve symptoms of indigestion, such as heartburn, belching and bloating. The American Cancer Society actually recommends offering warm lemon water to cancer sufferers to help stimulate bowel movements.

Cleanses Your System. Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials in part because lemons increase the rate of urination in the body. Therefore toxins are released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy. The citric acid in lemons helps maximize enzyme function, which stimulates the liver and aids in detoxification.

Boosts Your Immune System. Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is great for fighting colds.  They’re high in potassium, which stimulates brain and nerve function. Potassium also helps control blood pressure. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) found in lemons demonstrates anti-inflammatory effects, and is used as complementary support for asthma and other respiratory symptoms plus it enhances iron absorption in the body; iron plays an important role in immune function. Lemons also contain saponins, which show antimicrobial properties that may help keep cold and flu at bay. Lemons also reduce the amount of phlegm produced by the body.

Balances pH Levels. Lemons are one of the most alkalizing foods for the body. Sure, they are acidic on their own, but inside our bodies they’re alkaline (the citric acid does not create acidity in the body once metabolized). Lemons contain both citric and ascorbic acid, weak acids easily metabolized from the body allowing the mineral content of lemons to help alkalize the blood. Disease states only occur when the body pH is acidic. Drinking lemon water regularly can help to remove overall acidity in the body, including uric acid in the joints, which is one of the primary causes of pain and inflammation.

Clears Skin. The vitamin C component as well as other antioxidants helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes and it helps to combat free radical damage. Vitamin C is vital for healthy glowing skin while its alkaline nature kills some types of bacteria known to cause acne. It can actually be applied directly to scars or age spots to help reduce their appearance. Since lemon water purges toxins from your blood, it would also be helping to keep your skin clear of blemishes from the inside out. The vitamin C contained in the lemon rejuvenates the skin from within your body.

Energizes You and Enhances Your Mood. The energy a human receives from food comes from the atoms and molecules in your food. A reaction occurs when the positive charged ions from food enter the digestive tract and interact with the negative charged enzymes. Lemon is one of the few foods that contain more negative charged ions, providing your body with more energy when it enters the digestive tract. The scent of lemon also has mood enhancing and energizing properties. The smell of lemon juice can brighten your mood and help clear your mind. Lemon can also help reduce anxiety and depression.

Promotes Healing. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), found in abundance in lemons, promotes wound healing, and is an essential nutrient in the maintenance of healthy bones, connective tissue, and cartilage. As noted previously, vitamin C also displays anti-inflammatory properties. Combined, vitamin C is an essential nutrient in the maintenance of good health and recovery from stress and injury.

Freshens Breath. Besides fresher breath, lemons have  been known to help relieve tooth pain and gingivitis. Be aware that citric acid can erode tooth enamel, so you should be mindful of this. No not brush your teeth just after drinking your lemon water. It is best to brush your teeth first, then drink your lemon water, or wait a significant amount of time after to brush your teeth. Additionally, you can rinse your mouth with purified water after you finish your lemon water.

Hydrates Your Lymph System. Warm water and lemon juice supports the immune system by hydrating and replacing fluids lost by your body. When your body is deprived of water, you can definitely feel the side effects, which include: feeling tired, sluggish, decreased immune function, constipation, lack of energy, low/high blood pressure, lack of sleep, lack of mental clarity and feeling stressed, just to name a few.

Aids in Weight Loss. Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. Studies have shown people who maintain a more alkaline diet, do in fact lose weight faster. I personally find myself making better choices throughout the day, if I start my day off right, by making a health conscious choice to drink warm lemon water first thing every morning.

So add some lemon to your water instead of having it with tequila and start to see the changes to your body!

I highly recommend getting yourself an infuso bottle see here. They are great for work, the gym or out and about.

Fizz, Fashion and Cupcakes at 360 Champagne and Cocktails

I am super excited about this blog because I know that if you are a fan of cocktails, bubbly, cupcakes and fashion you will get excited too. What girl doesn’t love these?!

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to 360 Champagne and Cocktails bar in Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow to one of their events which they hold on Thursday nights. Each week it is a different event, the first one I went to was a cupcake decorating class and oh my these were delicious – the diet went out the window that night! Ha! Just kidding this diet I have been talking about starting for the past year hasn’t lasted more than a couple of hours. Anyway back to cupcakes, a girl called Carrie who is a fantastic baker and chef came along and showed us the different techniques and designs you can use to decorate your cupcakes, she showed us how to make them into roses- these are so beautiful! Perfect for weddings or girly nights. We all got a shot of decorating them and this was much harder than it looked. Then the best part- we got to eat them :) They tasted just as good as they looked! After that my mum and I sat and enjoyed some complimentary champagne for going along to the event and some tasty cocktails. The team at the bar are all wonderful very talented mixologists and great to chat to!

I enjoyed it so much so that I went to the next event the week after which was a talk by the personal stylists from the OASIS Glasgow Flagship store. I went along with my friend Nina who is also a blogger we enjoyed some complimentary champagne and had a gossip before the event started. The girls Rosalind and Danielle came along with a rail of stunning spring and summer outfits (I wanted to buy it all) they spoke to us individually about the trends and how we can get the most wear out of our outfits which was fantastic. The girls were so helpful and got us really excited about our next shopping trip. What I was very surprised about is that the personal shopping service in Oasis is free! Do you need a wardrobe overhaul? Help with some summer outfits or an outfit for an event you are going to? The girls will make sure you have a fantastic experience, enjoy fizz, nibbles, girly chat and pretending you are Cher from Clueless for the day. How fabulous does this sound? If you are interested in booking an appointment follow the link here-

The girls are so lovely and I can’t wait for my personal shopping experience. What I am always nervous about is going along not liking anything but feeling like you have to buy something but what is great is that the girls want to make sure you go out the door happy and confident and will even give you advice on other clothes you have bought from other stores too. Why not have a girly day out shopping and enjoying some cocktails or a delicious afternoon tea at 360 Champagne and Cocktails Bar?

Are you a student? You are entitled to 2 for 1 cocktails at the bar- lucky you! Take a break from studying and de-stress for a while…
2 for 1

It would be lovely to see you at the next event which is Thursday at 5:30pm and is Fabulous Fizz Tasting, There will be a glass of fizz waiting for you on arrival!
