Thaikhun Glasgow VIP Launch Night

Th 1

Sawasdee Kha (Hello)

Have you tried Thaikhun yet? If not then drop everything and go!

I was lucky enough to get invited along to the VIP launch night at their new home in Silverburn, Glasgow on Monday evening. From the moment you walk through the door you feel as though you have stepped into Bangkok. The restaurant is filled with original TV’s, pictures, ornaments and flags from a Thai market which gives the authenticity of being in a Thai restaurant.

We met our friends and were offered some drinks and delicious food which tasted like it came straight from the streets of Bangkok. The pork skewers were probably my favourite but everything I tried was bursting with flavour!

After a while there was a speech thanking everyone who has been part of the journey to open Thaikhun, it was soo lovely to hear that all of the chefs were from Thailand and the manager was from a little village in Thailand herself. We were also told that a lot of the food has come from original recipes in her own little village and most of the items you will see on the ceiling and walls are from her own home in Thailand. I love places like this! You could feel the passion in the atmosphere for this place and I felt very thankful to be part of the celebration. After the speech everyone broke out in song and dance, almost the full restaurant got up to dance and join in the celebration.

I can’t wait to get back and taste more of the delicious food on the menu and maybe this time I will choose not to be the designated driver and get to taste some of their cocktails! I love the place everyone is so friendly and they are just like one big family! Thaikun is also owned by the same group as Chaophraya which is an upmarket Thai restaurant.

Would I go back? YES! Here is a couple of pictures from the fun we had in the photobooth…

My visit to Franklin & Sloane

Vibrant, spacious, welcoming, friendly and extremely tasty food! These are just a few words which come to mind when people ask what I thought of the new Franklin and Sloane restaurant and bar. On Thursday evening I went along with family to the soft launch. We were sat at a long marble table in the middle of one of the rooms, what is great about this place is that no matter what table you are sat at you have plenty of room and are not almost sitting on the lap of the people next to you. There’s a huge outdoor decked area at the rear of the building and also at the front, great for some cocktails as the sun goes down or some al fresco dining.
For starter I had the goats cheese tart with beetroot, the tart was lovely and fluffy which was delicious withjust the right amount of goats cheese, I would definitely recommend this. I also stole some of Kyle’s muscles, the portion was perfect for a starter and they were very flavoursome. Some of the others had the prawn cocktail and the haggis, they all looked yummy and I will obviously have to visit until I have tasted everything on the menu.
For mains most of the table ordered the steak which I tried some of and wow was it good! Flavoursome and cooked perfectly! My Dad had the chicken and he has not stopped talking about it so it must have been good. I had the salmon and mash which was very interesting as it had tomatoes and olives mixed through it.
For desert you must try the chocolate fondant, the sponge was soft and the warm melted chocolate in the centre is just heaven!
After finishing desert we were shown around the venue. The décor is stunning! If you like the Malmaison and Blythswood Hotel you will definitely like it here! There is an upstairs private dining area which is great for functions up to 100 people. The area can also be split into two different rooms and there’s also a bar, brilliant for networking and other celebratory events.
The restaurant is now officially open to the public and is likely to be busy I would highly recommend booking a table and trying it! If you don’t have time to go for dinner they also have a fabulous cream tea which would be perfect for a catch up with friends. We were very surprised at the prices as they are very reasonable for how good the service and food it.
If you are not from the area it is definitely worth a visit! The restaurant and bar is in a great location situated just a short walk from the bus station and the train station however if you are wearing heels you are only two minutes in a taxi. The restaurant looks onto the Dick Institute and library which is a stunning building! If you are looking for something to do at the weekend why not enjoy some delicious food at the restaurant and a visit to the museum? The Kay Park is also just around the corner which is lovely for a walk on a dry day.
Overall 5 stars from me I could not fault it at all! A must try. Visit their website here . Open from 10am to Midnight, Franklin & Sloane is the new favourite spot for brunch and coffee, freshly prepared meals and of course, a great selection of craft beers and cocktails!
Thank you to Franklin & Sloane and the G1 Group for having us.

Fizz, Fashion and Cupcakes at 360 Champagne and Cocktails

I am super excited about this blog because I know that if you are a fan of cocktails, bubbly, cupcakes and fashion you will get excited too. What girl doesn’t love these?!

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to 360 Champagne and Cocktails bar in Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow to one of their events which they hold on Thursday nights. Each week it is a different event, the first one I went to was a cupcake decorating class and oh my these were delicious – the diet went out the window that night! Ha! Just kidding this diet I have been talking about starting for the past year hasn’t lasted more than a couple of hours. Anyway back to cupcakes, a girl called Carrie who is a fantastic baker and chef came along and showed us the different techniques and designs you can use to decorate your cupcakes, she showed us how to make them into roses- these are so beautiful! Perfect for weddings or girly nights. We all got a shot of decorating them and this was much harder than it looked. Then the best part- we got to eat them :) They tasted just as good as they looked! After that my mum and I sat and enjoyed some complimentary champagne for going along to the event and some tasty cocktails. The team at the bar are all wonderful very talented mixologists and great to chat to!

I enjoyed it so much so that I went to the next event the week after which was a talk by the personal stylists from the OASIS Glasgow Flagship store. I went along with my friend Nina who is also a blogger we enjoyed some complimentary champagne and had a gossip before the event started. The girls Rosalind and Danielle came along with a rail of stunning spring and summer outfits (I wanted to buy it all) they spoke to us individually about the trends and how we can get the most wear out of our outfits which was fantastic. The girls were so helpful and got us really excited about our next shopping trip. What I was very surprised about is that the personal shopping service in Oasis is free! Do you need a wardrobe overhaul? Help with some summer outfits or an outfit for an event you are going to? The girls will make sure you have a fantastic experience, enjoy fizz, nibbles, girly chat and pretending you are Cher from Clueless for the day. How fabulous does this sound? If you are interested in booking an appointment follow the link here- http://www.oasis-stores.com/fcp/content/My-Personal-Stylist-booking/content

The girls are so lovely and I can’t wait for my personal shopping experience. What I am always nervous about is going along not liking anything but feeling like you have to buy something but what is great is that the girls want to make sure you go out the door happy and confident and will even give you advice on other clothes you have bought from other stores too. Why not have a girly day out shopping and enjoying some cocktails or a delicious afternoon tea at 360 Champagne and Cocktails Bar?

Are you a student? You are entitled to 2 for 1 cocktails at the bar- lucky you! Take a break from studying and de-stress for a while…
2 for 1

It would be lovely to see you at the next event which is Thursday at 5:30pm and is Fabulous Fizz Tasting, There will be a glass of fizz waiting for you on arrival!

Water Sports in Scotland

A few months ago we bought vouchers off of Itison (voucher site) for wakeboarding at Loch Lomond Wakeboard next to the Ardlui Hotel. We eventually got round to going a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it! We immediately booked to come back the next weekend with our friends.

When we arrived it was a gorgeous day although the weather said it would be snowing, the staff were so friendly and got us sorted with wetsuits and life jackets. I was a little nervous as I am not a great swimmer and am not very confident in the water but we were shown what to do once we get in the water and I already felt ok with it and got excited. We got on the speed boat and were taken out to the middle of the loch, the surroundings are stunning!

Kyle in action!

When the boat stops you put your feet into the boots attached to the board and get into the water at this point it is nice and relaxing lying floating in the water admiring the gorgeous scenery and then it’s time to get going. You start off with your knees as close to your chest and lie in the water in a squat position – this is the tricky part! At first you are trying to keep your balance and slowly stand up whilst remaining in the squat position, at first you will probably try and push your weight onto the board but you should really be trying to put as little amount of weight on the board as you can. You are also holding onto the handle which is attached to the end of a rope tied to the boat, you have to try and let the boat push you and not pull to much on the handle which was my mistake. Kyle went first and managed to stand up and go for quite a bit and then I tried it and managed to stand up on my very last try! yeyyy! When we went back with our friends Grant and Nina it was great fun too apart from the weather was a lot colder. The water never changed much in temperature so I would advise if you are going to try this buy some gloves and socks for wakeboarding or you will end up with very numb hands and feet.

The water was a little cold…..

After Wakeboarding we took kayaks out for an hour the water was a little choppy but this would be fantastic on a nice day, the have both single and double kayaks. The boys took our singles and Nina and I had a double #GirlPower at first I was extremely worried and thought we were getting tipped right into the loch but after a while we got a hang of it and were fabulous!

I am so glad we tried it and can’t wait to go again it is a great day out and there definitely will be a lot of falling back into the water swallowing half of the loch and face- planting in the water but it is definitely worth it. They have showers there to use, just remember to take towels with you :)
