Thaikhun Glasgow VIP Launch Night

Th 1

Sawasdee Kha (Hello)

Have you tried Thaikhun yet? If not then drop everything and go!

I was lucky enough to get invited along to the VIP launch night at their new home in Silverburn, Glasgow on Monday evening. From the moment you walk through the door you feel as though you have stepped into Bangkok. The restaurant is filled with original TV’s, pictures, ornaments and flags from a Thai market which gives the authenticity of being in a Thai restaurant.

We met our friends and were offered some drinks and delicious food which tasted like it came straight from the streets of Bangkok. The pork skewers were probably my favourite but everything I tried was bursting with flavour!

After a while there was a speech thanking everyone who has been part of the journey to open Thaikhun, it was soo lovely to hear that all of the chefs were from Thailand and the manager was from a little village in Thailand herself. We were also told that a lot of the food has come from original recipes in her own little village and most of the items you will see on the ceiling and walls are from her own home in Thailand. I love places like this! You could feel the passion in the atmosphere for this place and I felt very thankful to be part of the celebration. After the speech everyone broke out in song and dance, almost the full restaurant got up to dance and join in the celebration.

I can’t wait to get back and taste more of the delicious food on the menu and maybe this time I will choose not to be the designated driver and get to taste some of their cocktails! I love the place everyone is so friendly and they are just like one big family! Thaikun is also owned by the same group as Chaophraya which is an upmarket Thai restaurant.

Would I go back? YES! Here is a couple of pictures from the fun we had in the photobooth…

My visit to Franklin & Sloane

Vibrant, spacious, welcoming, friendly and extremely tasty food! These are just a few words which come to mind when people ask what I thought of the new Franklin and Sloane restaurant and bar. On Thursday evening I went along with family to the soft launch. We were sat at a long marble table in the middle of one of the rooms, what is great about this place is that no matter what table you are sat at you have plenty of room and are not almost sitting on the lap of the people next to you. There’s a huge outdoor decked area at the rear of the building and also at the front, great for some cocktails as the sun goes down or some al fresco dining.
For starter I had the goats cheese tart with beetroot, the tart was lovely and fluffy which was delicious withjust the right amount of goats cheese, I would definitely recommend this. I also stole some of Kyle’s muscles, the portion was perfect for a starter and they were very flavoursome. Some of the others had the prawn cocktail and the haggis, they all looked yummy and I will obviously have to visit until I have tasted everything on the menu.
For mains most of the table ordered the steak which I tried some of and wow was it good! Flavoursome and cooked perfectly! My Dad had the chicken and he has not stopped talking about it so it must have been good. I had the salmon and mash which was very interesting as it had tomatoes and olives mixed through it.
For desert you must try the chocolate fondant, the sponge was soft and the warm melted chocolate in the centre is just heaven!
After finishing desert we were shown around the venue. The décor is stunning! If you like the Malmaison and Blythswood Hotel you will definitely like it here! There is an upstairs private dining area which is great for functions up to 100 people. The area can also be split into two different rooms and there’s also a bar, brilliant for networking and other celebratory events.
The restaurant is now officially open to the public and is likely to be busy I would highly recommend booking a table and trying it! If you don’t have time to go for dinner they also have a fabulous cream tea which would be perfect for a catch up with friends. We were very surprised at the prices as they are very reasonable for how good the service and food it.
If you are not from the area it is definitely worth a visit! The restaurant and bar is in a great location situated just a short walk from the bus station and the train station however if you are wearing heels you are only two minutes in a taxi. The restaurant looks onto the Dick Institute and library which is a stunning building! If you are looking for something to do at the weekend why not enjoy some delicious food at the restaurant and a visit to the museum? The Kay Park is also just around the corner which is lovely for a walk on a dry day.
Overall 5 stars from me I could not fault it at all! A must try. Visit their website here . Open from 10am to Midnight, Franklin & Sloane is the new favourite spot for brunch and coffee, freshly prepared meals and of course, a great selection of craft beers and cocktails!
Thank you to Franklin & Sloane and the G1 Group for having us.

The Bowery Restaurant & Bar

It is Friday yey! Time to celebrate with good food and a cocktail or two! The best place to go? The Bowery on Queen Street in Glasgow. Newly opened and formally The Independent. After a long day working and after a talk at the Glasgow Science Festival Kyle and I were soo hungry! We headed to The Bowery and immediately after walking in I felt relaxed and that I could unwind and enjoy some tasty food. The staff are all so lovely, honest and helpful which is great as there are many places where the staff just seem like they cannot wait to get out the place. The food is locally sourced fresh produce served up in a cosmopolitan atmosphere – Just perfect!

We were taken to our seats and left to order food. We decided on some Focaccia and the tempura to start with. I do wish that I never ordered the Focaccia as it filled me up and I felt like I couldn’t finish my main meal but it was delicious! For mains we had the Slow Braised Beef Brisket and the Roast Smoke Salmon Pasta. I highly recommend the brisket, I don’t usually like steak if it is really chewy but this literally melts in your mouth. I tried some of the pasta which was also delicious and a good sized portion. There is a great deal of choice on the menu so I am excited about going back and next time trying the cocktails too! We love our cocktails and like them made right, we spoke to the bar manager and he was so passionate about his job as a mixologist we knew the drinks would be great. The cocktail list looks fantastic, see it Here.

Just to make your mouth water here are some pictures of the food we enjoyed…

Deliveroo – For people who want food delivered to them presto

Have yoouu heard about Deliveroo? If not, then let me tell you all about it!

Well do you ever get bored of the same old food at work or dread going out in the rain (like every day)? Or maybe you just want someone to deliver your favourite food straight to your door? Sure you do! Well that is exactly what Deliveroo will do. Pick your favourite restaurant and they will deliver it in approximately 32 min – impressive!

Why am I telling you this? My friend Nina and I enjoyed a day relaxing at a spa and enjoyed an afternoon tea (too many cakes and bread) then decided we were still starving but wanted to be good so decided on the Juice Garden on Byres Road. We were shattered being Ladies of Leisure all day and the traffic was just ridiculous and that is when we stopped and looked at each other with excitement as Deliveroo popped up on Facebook telling us they would deliver to us. Obviously we ordered our food there and then on the site which was so quick and easy to do. There is also a flat rate of £2.50 for delivery which is great because you know exactly what it is going to cost.

We both got to the house and waited (not for long) for our detox salads and drinks from The Juice Garden. Our Deliveroo delivery guy was soo polite and pleasant and delivered our food fresh from the restaurant. Our food was delicious and we can’t wait to order again! It is so handy when you are having a night in, people round, after a long day at work or if it is raining outside and you are just not for it.

Try Deliveroo out for yourself this weekend Here

Fizz, Fashion and Cupcakes at 360 Champagne and Cocktails

I am super excited about this blog because I know that if you are a fan of cocktails, bubbly, cupcakes and fashion you will get excited too. What girl doesn’t love these?!

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to 360 Champagne and Cocktails bar in Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow to one of their events which they hold on Thursday nights. Each week it is a different event, the first one I went to was a cupcake decorating class and oh my these were delicious – the diet went out the window that night! Ha! Just kidding this diet I have been talking about starting for the past year hasn’t lasted more than a couple of hours. Anyway back to cupcakes, a girl called Carrie who is a fantastic baker and chef came along and showed us the different techniques and designs you can use to decorate your cupcakes, she showed us how to make them into roses- these are so beautiful! Perfect for weddings or girly nights. We all got a shot of decorating them and this was much harder than it looked. Then the best part- we got to eat them :) They tasted just as good as they looked! After that my mum and I sat and enjoyed some complimentary champagne for going along to the event and some tasty cocktails. The team at the bar are all wonderful very talented mixologists and great to chat to!

I enjoyed it so much so that I went to the next event the week after which was a talk by the personal stylists from the OASIS Glasgow Flagship store. I went along with my friend Nina who is also a blogger we enjoyed some complimentary champagne and had a gossip before the event started. The girls Rosalind and Danielle came along with a rail of stunning spring and summer outfits (I wanted to buy it all) they spoke to us individually about the trends and how we can get the most wear out of our outfits which was fantastic. The girls were so helpful and got us really excited about our next shopping trip. What I was very surprised about is that the personal shopping service in Oasis is free! Do you need a wardrobe overhaul? Help with some summer outfits or an outfit for an event you are going to? The girls will make sure you have a fantastic experience, enjoy fizz, nibbles, girly chat and pretending you are Cher from Clueless for the day. How fabulous does this sound? If you are interested in booking an appointment follow the link here- http://www.oasis-stores.com/fcp/content/My-Personal-Stylist-booking/content

The girls are so lovely and I can’t wait for my personal shopping experience. What I am always nervous about is going along not liking anything but feeling like you have to buy something but what is great is that the girls want to make sure you go out the door happy and confident and will even give you advice on other clothes you have bought from other stores too. Why not have a girly day out shopping and enjoying some cocktails or a delicious afternoon tea at 360 Champagne and Cocktails Bar?

Are you a student? You are entitled to 2 for 1 cocktails at the bar- lucky you! Take a break from studying and de-stress for a while…
2 for 1

It would be lovely to see you at the next event which is Thursday at 5:30pm and is Fabulous Fizz Tasting, There will be a glass of fizz waiting for you on arrival!

Gusto Restaurant Review

Gusto Restaurant and Bar on Bothwell Street in Glasgow is a new Grand Italian restaurant which doesn’t break the bank! Aiming to make the everyday exquisite – they do just that and the meal was faultless from start to finish.

On Tuesday evening my boyfriend and I decided to head to Gusto for date night and what a fantastic one it was…

Stepping in to Gusto we were greeted by a welcoming member of the Gusto team who directed us to the bar whilst we waited for our seats (we decided to go early to try out some cocktails).  We sat down and had a chat about the extensive and exciting cocktail list. As I was driving I decided on the non – alcoholic Strawberry and Mint Cooler which was made with fresh strawberries, cherry preserve and mint muddled with lemon juice and apple juice, lengthened with soda water – a deliciously refreshing drink, perfect for a summers day. Kyle decided on the Rosemary Twist which I had a sip of  and it was full of flavour, one I will definitely try again! It was made with Bacardi Oro stirred with mulled rosemary, luxardo maraschino and Sanata Teresa orange liqueur.  We sat at the bar for around 15/ 20 minutes and chatted to some of the lovely members of staff about the stunning decor, food menu and what they would suggest. It was so nice to speak to members of the team and hear how passionate they are about the menu’s and the restaurant – they were delightful. The bar is stunning and a great area to visit even if you are only stopping by for some cocktails. I can’t wait to get back and try the Cherry and Coconut Sour or the Figs and Honey.

After enjoying our cocktails we were then taken to our seats which were extremely comfy! Great for a lunch meeting or a dinner with some friends. Usually I find in a booth you all feel crammed together like a tin of sardines in some restaurants but these have plenty of room! Our seats gave us a great view of the restaurant and we admired the art in either side of the room which are very striking and not what you would expect to see in an Italian restaurant but it is very individual which I loved.

Making the decision on what to eat was a tricky choice I must say as the menu had lots of  classic and contemporary Italian food to choose from. After deciding I would just have to come back to try more dishes I chose to start with the mussels cooked with white wine, cream and garlic and for main the Truffle Verdi pizza which was courgettes and goats cheese with truffle dressing and red chard on a pea base. I loved this dish as it was different to any pizza I had ever tasted, it was light, refreshing and full of tasty flavours which worked well together (currently craving it). Oh I just got over excited telling you about the Truffle Verdi I almost forgot to tell you about the mussels, I could never forget them! There was just the right amount for a starter, usually I fill myself up and can’t manage my dinner however the starter was the perfect size but I could also have enjoyed a fee more if I never made the wrong decision to offer him some. Never do that! Sometimes people think you are serious and take you up on the offer. The mussels are a must try! Kyle chose to have the Romesco Chicken Salad with goats cheese, red peppers and aged balsamic, what a great choice! He then had a pasta with a flavoursome marinara sauce which disappeared very quickly so from that reaction I took it that it was very enjoyable. Not only were the dishes exquisite but we also felt relaxed with the 1920’s decor and the jazz music on in the background.

 The third course….

Oh boy was this delightful! I went straight for the Nutella and Mascarpone Calzone, uhh huh I said it! This was just heaven on a plate. After two courses I am usually stuffed and cannot manage dessert but I had to try this and I am so glad I did, the calzone melted in my mouth and aroused my taste buds. Kyle opted for the three scoop ice cream with almond flakes, sadly the pistachio ice cream was all gone as it was so popular but the vanilla and strawberry was creamy and light – perfect end to a lovely meal.

Nutella Calzone and two scoop ice cream
Will I be back? I can’t wait to visit again! The food is of a high standard, the presentation & attention to detail is precise and appealing, the flavours full while being superbly balanced such that each dish leaves you thinking there is little to nothing that could be done to make it better.

I highly recommend Gusto and it is a perfect lunch or dinner spot if you are even just visiting the city as it is in a great location situated just around the corner from Central Station.

Book ok your table and take your taste buds on a flavoursome adventure…
