Vibrant, spacious, welcoming, friendly and extremely tasty food! These are just a few words which come to mind when people ask what I thought of the new Franklin and Sloane restaurant and bar. On Thursday evening I went along with family to the soft launch. We were sat at a long marble table in the middle of one of the rooms, what is great about this place is that no matter what table you are sat at you have plenty of room and are not almost sitting on the lap of the people next to you. There’s a huge outdoor decked area at the rear of the building and also at the front, great for some cocktails as the sun goes down or some al fresco dining.
For starter I had the goats cheese tart with beetroot, the tart was lovely and fluffy which was delicious withjust the right amount of goats cheese, I would definitely recommend this. I also stole some of Kyle’s muscles, the portion was perfect for a starter and they were very flavoursome. Some of the others had the prawn cocktail and the haggis, they all looked yummy and I will obviously have to visit until I have tasted everything on the menu.
For mains most of the table ordered the steak which I tried some of and wow was it good! Flavoursome and cooked perfectly! My Dad had the chicken and he has not stopped talking about it so it must have been good. I had the salmon and mash which was very interesting as it had tomatoes and olives mixed through it.
For desert you must try the chocolate fondant, the sponge was soft and the warm melted chocolate in the centre is just heaven!
After finishing desert we were shown around the venue. The décor is stunning! If you like the Malmaison and Blythswood Hotel you will definitely like it here! There is an upstairs private dining area which is great for functions up to 100 people. The area can also be split into two different rooms and there’s also a bar, brilliant for networking and other celebratory events.
The restaurant is now officially open to the public and is likely to be busy I would highly recommend booking a table and trying it! If you don’t have time to go for dinner they also have a fabulous cream tea which would be perfect for a catch up with friends. We were very surprised at the prices as they are very reasonable for how good the service and food it.
If you are not from the area it is definitely worth a visit! The restaurant and bar is in a great location situated just a short walk from the bus station and the train station however if you are wearing heels you are only two minutes in a taxi. The restaurant looks onto the Dick Institute and library which is a stunning building! If you are looking for something to do at the weekend why not enjoy some delicious food at the restaurant and a visit to the museum? The Kay Park is also just around the corner which is lovely for a walk on a dry day.
Overall 5 stars from me I could not fault it at all! A must try. Visit their website here . Open from 10am to Midnight, Franklin & Sloane is the new favourite spot for brunch and coffee, freshly prepared meals and of course, a great selection of craft beers and cocktails!
Thank you to Franklin & Sloane and the G1 Group for having us.

It is Friday yey! Time to celebrate with good food and a cocktail or two! The best place to go? The Bowery on Queen Street in Glasgow. Newly opened and formally The Independent. After a long day working and after a talk at the Glasgow Science Festival Kyle and I were soo hungry! We headed to The Bowery and immediately after walking in I felt relaxed and that I could unwind and enjoy some tasty food. The staff are all so lovely, honest and helpful which is great as there are many places where the staff just seem like they cannot wait to get out the place. The food is locally sourced fresh produce served up in a cosmopolitan atmosphere – Just perfect!
We were taken to our seats and left to order food. We decided on some Focaccia and the tempura to start with. I do wish that I never ordered the Focaccia as it filled me up and I felt like I couldn’t finish my main meal but it was delicious! For mains we had the Slow Braised Beef Brisket and the Roast Smoke Salmon Pasta. I highly recommend the brisket, I don’t usually like steak if it is really chewy but this literally melts in your mouth. I tried some of the pasta which was also delicious and a good sized portion. There is a great deal of choice on the menu so I am excited about going back and next time trying the cocktails too! We love our cocktails and like them made right, we spoke to the bar manager and he was so passionate about his job as a mixologist we knew the drinks would be great. The cocktail list looks fantastic, see it Here.
Just to make your mouth water here are some pictures of the food we enjoyed…
